In this video, I capture myself installing a gooseneck barn light by HTM Lighting Solutions. This light was a gift from our friends David and Joy. Rather than throwing it out, they gave it to me. I knew right away I would install it in our shed.
U Do It Reviews Lighting
Lighting plays a crucial role in the aesthetics of your area. This light would be perfect for a rustic farmhouse or barn. I’m installing it within my shed above the doors.
About the Lamp
The lamp features a 17-inch round shade held by a 14 1/2 inch gooseneck extension arm. The lamp is suitable for outdoors as well as indoors. It includes all necessary hardware for both scenarios. However, I did have to find 10-24 1-inch long machine screws to secure them into my round weatherproof box.
Tools and Materials
This is a list of the tools and materials that I use in the video. Your situation will certainly be different than mine and I can’t possibly guess what you have.

Installing a Gooseneck Barn Lamp
It is advised that you seek help when doing this unless you have the ability to secure the lamp as I did during installation. I used a clamp to secure it to the shed cross member. This allowed me to complete the wiring prior to the installation of the lamp onto the weatherproof box.
The lamp includes the lighting fixture mounted within the shade and the gooseneck arm with 8 feet of wire (hot, neutral, and ground wire). There is a round mounting plate that includes two set screws to secure the gooseneck within the mounting plate. For weatherproof installations, you’ll use the rubber ring to seal between the mount and the round electrical box. There is a grommet to install between the gooseneck and the mounting plate to ensure the wires pass through safely.
Lightbulb
I love the Phillips 150-watt bulb that I installed. It claims to only consume 27 watts of actual power for the equivalent output of a 150-watt bulb. When I flip the switch on the light brightens up the surrounding area, including my tool holder. I can actually see what tool I’m grabbing now thanks to its brightness.
